10 years felt like a million years away on our wedding day, yet here we are a decade in and it went in a blink of an eye.
Our invitation to visit iNsingizi Lodge and Spa could not be more perfectly timed. Even though we had to delay for a month (kids).
It would be our first getaway together with no kids. Leading up to the weekend away, we both experienced a rush of emotions, excited to spend time together and nervous to leave the kids, and both of us experienced parent guilt.
I am of the belief that as a couple you need to be able to do things as a couple and be confident that your children can be loved and cared for while you are away.
iNsingizi is just over an hour away from where we stay, which made it the perfect location, far away enough to feel like you are a world away and yet close enough to dash home for any kiddie related emergencies.
Leaving the main road and heading towards the rolling hills, you lose sight of everything and start to feel the stress of the world disappear. We were lucky to see zebra, nyala and an ostrich before arriving at the reception.
We stayed in one of the Hilltop Suites overlooking the valley in front of us with a line of trees…. bliss.
The team at iNsingizi surprised us with a bottle of bubbly on check-in and petals across the bed. My favourite part was the large bathroom, with a large tub, walk-in shower and an outdoor one too. The room had airconditioning, a warm beverage station and a large patio.
Our meals were included in the stay, as our rooms are not self-catering. The evening included a set menu with some options to choose from.
The next morning a beautiful breakfast was spread out by the swimming pool, with a continental option and a warm English breakfast on request. There was also a light lunch served later in the day. Honestly, all the dishes we had were delicious and packed with flavour, and served with the biggest smile.
Spa it out!
Dressed in our fluffy robes, we were ready for a day of pampering. Both my husband and I love a good day spent at the spa. We were treated to six different treatments throughout the day. I loved how each treatment was set in a different location. The location is beautiful, lots of trees, birds signing in the trees and a few duikers strolling through the trees, the setting demands that you turn off the real world and escape to the tranquillity that is iNsingizi.
Joining us over the weekend to enjoy a spa getaway were a group of girlfriends, a family with a teenage daughter and a young couple, which just goes to show that spa retreats are not just for couples celebrating anniversaries.

With the lodge being a short drive from Durban, why not plan a high tea with some girlfriends, fresh country air and the opportunity to chill with bubbly and cake. I would include some spa treatments as part of the day too.
